Traffic rules in Russia

Driving license
National driving license is valid. Residents of other countries can drive a car using licenses issued by an EU country or national licenses with international driving permits.

Traffic
Russia is a right-hand traffic country. Drivers are allowed to overtake on the left side of the other vehicle only.

Low-beam lights
Low-beam lights must be on at all times (day and night, inside and outside settlements).

Seat belts
Seat belts are required for all passengers (even in rear seats). Children under 12 years old and less than 150 cm tall must sit in special child seats.

Mobile phone
Use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited, except when hands-free set is used.

Alcohol
Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Fines
Traffic fines in Russia are from 500 roubles (for minor traffic violations) to 30000 roubles (for alcohol-impaired driving).
Speed limits in Russia
- residential and yard areas – 20 km/h,
- inside settlements – 60 km/h,
- outside settlements – 90 km/h,
- on highways – 110 km/h.
Parking in Russia
Parking is allowed on the right hand side of the road or at any place of the roadside where there are no prohibition or restriction signs. Long-term parking is only allowed outside the road. In general, parking in Russia is free. Paid parking is only in centres of some large cities and some airports.
