Turkey isn't just relaxation on the beach. There are also striking creations of nature such as volcanoes or the traces of water and wind impact.

Renting a car will bring you to the wonders

If you rent a car without a driver, you can combine beach recreation in Antalya or Kemer with visiting Turkish landmarks. Renting a car is quite easy here:

  • you need a passport and an international driving license;
  • the period after obtaining the license must exceed one year and the driver must be 21 years old or more.

The speed limits are similar to the Russian ones; you need to follow the road signs.

As for the itinerary, it's quite interesting to visit the region of Cappadocia in the central part of the country. The unique landscape of this area was formed by numerous eruptions of the Erciyes volcano. A 100 metre layer of volcanic ash and lava covered a significant area. The atmospheric factors turned lava into basalt and ash into tuff. Water current, wind and temperature fluctuations have formed many unusual objects in the shape of cones, tubes and pillars up to 30 metres high.

The unique Cappadocia

Bizarre, almost extraterrestrial formations became aisles for the first Christians persecuted by the Romans. Cells, that were easy to carve out of pliable tuff, became their dwellings. The cave town of Uchisar includes many dwellings like this and they surround the central building, a real castle, which is 100 metres higher than other constructions.

The largest complex of such dwellings is located in the Goreme valley. A national park was established here and now it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Apart from dwellings, there are religious buildings that were carved out of volcanic rocks. Cave churches with altars and decoration are made inside these rocks. They have large internal halls with columns and vaulted ceilings. Many well-known churches are decorated with religious paintings that have been kept to the present day. The darkness of caves preserved the colours of old paints, depicting the faces of saints.

The Karanlik Kale Kilisi church (the Dark Church) possesses XII century frescoes that were preserved better than many others. The pictures of human faces weren't erased by the Arabic invaders whose Muslim traditions forbid depicting people.

Some churches are dedicated to specific Christian saints. There are churches of Saint Barbara and Saint Basil. The last one is dedicated to the bishop of Cappadocia, Basil the Great, who was later proclaimed a saint.

After they come back to the sea coast by the rented car, the tourists will keep the trip impressions for a long time. Images and photos of Cappadocia will take up a big part of the memories of the trip.
