Audi A3 Cabriolet: reliable and reasonable

Audi A3 Cabriolet: reliable and reasonable

The Audi A3 Cabriolet has good chassis. The engine is not noisy. It is comfortable for two passengers.

The cabriolets have always been associated with luxury and sunny trips. The Audi 3 Cabriolet is one of the cheapest cabriolets on the Russian market today. However, it does have drawbacks.

The first version of the A3 cabriolet was revealed in 2008. At that time, the bright car attracted all eyes. Technically, this car is similar to the hatchback and sedan Audi A3.

The Audi A3 Cabriolet is equipped with a 1.4-litre, 125bhp or a 1.8-litre, 180bhp TFSI engine. Unfortunately, the car with the 2.0-litre engine isn't available in Russia. Today we will consider the 1.8-litre version.

Both versions have a 7-speed robotised transmission. Remember that it switches very slowly at low speeds. After 5000rpm, it starts working properly. In addition, there are five modes: efficiency, comfort, auto, dynamic and individual. However, the differences between them are barely perceptible. Sad to say, a manual transmission for better control isn't available.

The good thing is its chassis. You won't feel any bumps while driving on uneven surfaces. It's the merit of the multi-link independent suspension. At high speeds, the car passes corners with confidence and without banks.

The Audi A3 Cabriolet accelerates to 100kmph in 7.8 seconds. The maximum speed of the 1.8-litre version is 242kmph. The torque is 250Nm. Also, the car is very economical: the average consumption of 95 petrol is 12 litres per 100km.

Nothing distracts from driving because the engine runs almost noiseless. At low speeds, you can hardly hear it. However, at 6000rpm, the engine starts buzzing like a huge lawnmower.

The Audi A3 Cabriolet is an ideal car for two travellers. The ergonomic front seats provide good lateral support. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that anyone else is able to accompany you. There is no rear legroom at all. In addition, the trunk is tiny: nothing can fit there except handbag when the top is open.

The interior is classic and quite ordinary. The retractable multi-system with a 5.8” display is hidden in the centre console. The infotainment system warns about over speeding, helps to park the car and reminds to have a break while driving for a long time. There are no special highlights in the interior. Maybe that’s why it’s reasonable for the buyers.

The price of the 1.8-litre model starts from 1,735,000 roubles. The 1.4-litre version is cheaper – 1,630,000 roubles. The cabriolet with the Quattro all-wheel drive system costs a few hundred roubles more.
