A comparative review of two city cars. Which car is more preferable to rent?

A comparative review of two city cars. Which car is more preferable to rent?

Appearance

The Kia Soul reminds one of small crossovers with an angular design, a tall body and a front kit made of plastic. Isn't it not a crossover? Many like it.

The Venga also casts strange associations but they are rather connected with a family minivan. Smooth shapes of the body, nice design of the front part and thought-out elements, European look.

Anyway, these cars attract attention of the nearby cars and pedestrians thanks to their unconventional appearance.

Interior

The Souls interior, as well as its appearance, wear a "chopped" design. But the cabin looks pretty attractive. The three-spoke steering wheel, large colour display on the central console and nice dashboard set the mood for the Soul. Besides, it is worth noting good quality of materials and assemble.

The driver seat owns a good shape, but they might not be adjustable for tall people. The rear seats will be comfortable just for two, one more person will not fit.

The Venga might not have anything surprising, it comes with a colour display on the console. The dashboard looks a bit archaic, especially the climate control unit. The dashboard is put in wells in a sporty way, but the radial digitization is not good for reading the information.

The seats in the Venga are spacious. There is a high seating position, so suitable for anyone. There is enough space for three people atthe rear, the rear seat can be also pulled lengthwise and the boot compartment increased.

As for the interior, the Soul is slightly ahead thanks to its spectacular design. However, the Venga is a bit more practical.

Driving

The Soul comes with a 1.6-litre engine and an automatic gearbox, it is quite good on city roads – flow with the stream and manoeuvre in the rows, but that is all you can rely on. The dynamics gets worse after 80 km/h, as a result, it is not very safe to overtake on a motorway.

Steering is not the best. It is quite stable, but still there is a bit of rolling in corners and its increased centre of gravity does not allow to turn at high speeds.

Comfort is not at high level. The suspension has long travel, but its energy content is not enough for uneven ground. As a result, the car rolls on pits.

The Venga also comes with a 1.6-litre engine and an automatic gearbox, but it is brisker and accelerates faster. But you should not wait for anything superficial from 124bhp.

Drive is quite good. The steering wheel is informative and responsive, less rolling in corners. Not bad for the car. It is pretty smooth even on pits and potholes.

The result is the Venga looks more attractive in driving. But, to tell the truth, the Soul is better in terms of geometric passability due to its high ground clearance and short overhangs of the body.

Conclusion

Both cars are quite attractive. But if you look for a practical and utilitarian car, go for the Venga. The Soul might have a good design, but driveability is mediocre (apart from passability).
