This SUV has always been famous for its outstanding off-road qualities, but the developers of the new generation model have put focus on the driving pleasure.

Let’s rent the car for a test drive and find out whether they succeeded in this.

Exterior

Nissan Pathfinder has a quite attractive design. The Japanese crossover catches the eye with a rapid profile, slanted headlights combined with chrome inserts of the big-celled radiator grille, expressive sides and wide wheel arches. Rooftop railing hint at practicality, while 181mm of ground clearance make it clear that you’d better leave dreams about going deeply off-road.

Interior

Nissan interior looks luxurious not only thanks to the high quality of materials, but also a harmonious colours and interesting design of the center console. It has many keys managing multimedia and climate control units. The display of the multimedia complex is located on the top of the console and pleases the eye with nice graphics, but the interface isn’t too logical and requires time to get used to it.

The driver’s seat with a flat profile and weak lateral support doesn’t fit for an active drive, but still is very comfy and can accommodate a driver of any size. The rear sofa is quite comfy - there is enough space for three passengers, and the seats are adjusted both for longitude and backrest inclination. The third row is a bit narrow, but still even passengers of 170cm of height are sure have enough legroom.

Behind the wheel

Nissan Pathfinder is equipped with:

  • 3.5 l engine, 249 HP
  • CVT
  • AWD

Car accelerates rapidly, but smoothly. Active drivers can be disappointed, as CVT isn’t too responsive and with a delay tunes for the necessary RPM. The engine’s capacities are quite enough for all the occasions.
The steering wheel isn’t too sensitive, but is quite informative, which together with moderate rolls in corners allows to maintain high speed both in turns and on the straight line. The suspension is energy absorbing and long-travel, it effortlessly overcomes most road irregularities assuring high smoothness of ride.

Summing up

Nissan Pathfinder was deprived of most it off-road qualities, but gained high comfort levels, intuitive handling, a stylish design and a functional interior. Such a combination of consumers properties makes the Japanese SUV one of the most attractive offers in the segment and allows it to compete with representatives of the premium segment.
