Rent Mercedes GLC Coupe: following the pioneer

Rent Mercedes GLC Coupe: following the pioneer

18.08.2016
Observing the characteristics of Mercedes GLC Coupe.

BMW X6 once created a new class of coupé-like SUVs.

The Bavarian company had an extraordinary commercial success due to this car, so they decided to create X4 – the younger analog of the best-seller. Compared to its major competitor, "Mercedes" was a little late, but in the end they decided to release their own coupe crossover – GLC Coupe. What’s so special about GLC Coupe? Let’s rent a car in Moscow and find out.

Exterior

Just like BMW X6, Mercedes GLC Coupe has a rapid profile with a sloping roof and sports accessories – massive exhaust pipes, wide sills and aggressive bumpers. However, the crossover from Stuttgart looks more solid and respectable than the cheeky Bavarian car. The huge emblem on the radiator grille and the interesting optics with LED strips look very attractive, while the small windows make the car stocky.

Interior

There is a sports atmosphere in the cabin of "Mercedes". The center console has a retro design and is slightly deployed down. It is made of carbon fiber plastic and aluminum. In terms of the quality of finishing materials, GLC Coupe is much better than X6 – the controls are nice to touch, though the ergonomics is not the best. The reason is the intricate interface of multimedia system. Besides, the display graphics is not detailed enough and it looks really old-fashioned.

Everyone can sit comfortably in the front seats due to good configuration and extensive adjustment ranges, however, the lateral support is not designed for active driving – the rollers are far from each other and don’t have enough rigidity. As for the rear row, there is more free space and the sofa is a little larger than in BMW X6, anyway it is still uncomfortable for three passengers. The luggage compartment has a volume of 491 liters and is quite suitable for transportation of huge luggage.

Technical Components

Mercedes GLC Coupe is aggregated with:

  • 2-liter petrol engine. Power – 245 h.p..
  • 9-speed automatic transmission.
  • All-wheel drive system (switchable).

The engine has acceptable traction in wide range of turns (1500 – 5000), and the accelerator pedal has special sensitivity, which allows to move dynamically. The automatic transmission is smooth and quick, so there is no need to switch to manual transmission.

In terms of control system, GLC Coupe is good but the Bavarian competitor is better – X6 is more adequate while turning and it has a sensitive steering. "Mercedes" has an informative steering wheel with a nice effort sensor in the near-zero zone too, but it rolls and sways more, that’s why there is no desire to turn quickly. The power-intensive suspension is designed for comfortable driving.

Conclusion

Mercedes GLC Coupe is a worthy rival for BMW X6, but the emphasis is still on driving comfort. Therefore, people who love active driving will probably choose the Bavarian crossover, while those who love compromise will prefer the car with a three-beam star on the radiator grille. You can always rent a car in Moscow and see whether you like it or not.
